Perl Support for Webdriver
« on: April 01, 2012, 05:46:41 PM »
I am getting a little confused now. On one page, it says that Perl is
supported through Selenium Remote Control "drivers".
 http://seleniumhq.org/about/platforms.html#programming-languages
 On another here http://seleniumhq.org/download/#client-drivers, it
mentions that Perl is not supported.

If I want to use Webdriver, Can i still go with Perl?

Thanks

Yes, it's "not supported by seleniumhq".
 Emphasis on "by".

Meaning it is supported by the authors of the perl binding (but they are not the same authors of the core selenium library)

Thanks for the response Luke.
So what should users who have been using RC with Perl do to migrate to
 the latest version?

Use these unsupported drivers or wait for official support to come in?

We have heavily invested on RC + Perl for one of our products and
would like to use the webdriver capabilities.

Thanks

I would not wait around for official perl support, it may never happen. You should evaluate the current bindings offered, maybe POC it with a few tests. I would also suggest trying to contact the author, see how responsive they are and their willingness to accept patches. Should you choose to use those bindings you should make a commitment to submitting patches to it, if you submit enough they might give you commit rights.
You have many options, but what I've described is my only recommendation.

The perl binding's author tends to be very responsive, IME.
