Browser detection from webdriver script.

I run my tests over a number of different browsers and platforms, I'd like
 to record the browser's navigator.appVersion property to a log file.
 Is this possible using the browser.execute_script command?

Yep, something along the lines of:
 version = browser.execute_script("return navigator.appVersion;")
